1. Thalomid

Thalomid is new families of pharmaceuticals called Immunomodulatory Drugs. Its derivatives include Revimid and Actimid. These drugs mediate the production of cytokines and other growth factors that are responsible for growth and survival of tumor cells. They lower levels of the proangiogenenic cytokines vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). They also prevent the growth of tumor tissue by inhibiting the attachment of stromal cells to tumor cells, a key requirement for optimal growth and survival of tumor cells. The ability to promote the cell cycle arrest and predispose cancer cells to apoptosis (programmed cell death) is another activity associated with these agents. They also direct the immune system to target cancer cells for destruction by natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes.

2. Revimid

Revimid (CC-5013) is a potent thalidomide.

3. Actimid

Actimid is an orally available compound that is chemically linked, but functionally distinct from thalidomide.
